Villa new boy delighted to be reunited with old boss

Emile Heskey admits the chance to be reunited with Martin O'Neill was too good to turn down after completing his move to Aston Villa from Wigan. The powerful striker is aware of O'Neill's methods having earlier in his career enjoyed a hugely successful spell at Leicester under the Ulsterman's tutelage. After concurring on personal terms and passing a medical at Villa Park the England international wasted little time in agreeing a move to the Midlands. Heskey's existing deal at Wigan was due to expire at the end of the season, meaning Villa were able to land the 31-year-old for £3.5million. Having signed on the dotted line, Heskey is eager to show the Villa faithful just why O'Neill retains such faith in his ability.

Reunion

He said: "I hope we can achieve a lot together. Aston Villa is a big club and it's been taking strides to get back to where it should be. I hope to be part of that. "The prospect of working with Martin again was one of the biggest factors for me. I know what he's about and I know I will be able to work well with him. "I have very fond memories of playing for him. I played for four seasons with him at Leicester and they were four great seasons. "We were always finishing in the top half of the Premier League table - and that was Leicester - with respect, a small club. "He took us to three League Cup finals in four years and into Europe. That says it all really. He was brilliant."
