Phil Jagielka says Everton can still challenge for a Champions League place despite only drawing with Arsenal.
Toffees stuck on top four ambition after 'disappointing' draw
Phil Jagielka says Everton can still challenge for a UEFA Champions League place even after missing their best chance yet of a scalp of one of last season's top four.
The Toffees were within seconds of claiming victory over Arsenal on Wednesday night until Robin van Persie scored an equaliser deep into stoppage time.
Three points would have closed the gap on fifth-placed Arsenal, and taken them within eight of the top four.
But Jagielka believes that elusive key victory is within their capability, along with a Champions League place.
Cruel
"Football's a cruel game," he told
The Daily Telegraph. "We've been dying to beat one of the top four for a while and this should have been it.
"I'm as sick as a parrot with the end result but a point's better than nothing.
"It shows how far we've come that we're disappointed to take a point from Arsenal at home."
Another chance
Everton do get another bite at the big four cherry - the third in less than two weeks - on Saturday when they go to Manchester United.
"We have to make up for lost ground from Wednesday," he added.
"We've got a hard trip to Old Trafford, but hopefully we can get a result."
