Bolton and Newcastle reportedly targeted midfielder

Miguel Veloso will remain at Sporting Lisbon after the club rejected bids from Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United. Veloso had been linked with a transfer away from Sporting during the winter transfer window, with Bolton strongly linked with a move for his signature. However, Sporting's asking price, thought to be in the region of £15million, proved a sticking point. The Portugal international's agent, Paulo Barbosa, said: "Miguel Veloso remains at Sporting. "He missed the training session for personal reasons; nothing to do with the course of the negotiations." Sporting snubbed an offer from Bolton reported to be worth 12million euros (£10.8 million) while the Magpies also tabled a bid, according to Barbosa. "Newcastle have made a written offer but Sporting have rejected it also," he added.
