Aguirre's successor happy to take the risk with Madrid
New Atletico Madrid manager Abel Resino has stated that the opportunity to take over at the Vicente Calderon was simply too good to refuse.
Resino has been brought in to replace Javier Aguirre in the Atletico hotseat after leading Castellon to the top half of the Segunda Division.
The 49-year-old has admitted that he departs his former employers with a heavy heart, but is looking forward to the new challenge that awaits in the capital.
"In life one has to take risks and grab opportunities," Resino told Spanish daily
Marca.
"The first thing that Atletico did was to speak to Castellon. I have not abandoned them.
"Castellon appreciated the work that I did and they did not want to stop me from taking this opportunity. I will be eternally grateful to them for this gesture.
"The Castellon players all congratulated me and were pleased. I was delighted about that."
After spending nearly a decade at Atletico, the former keeper is better positioned than most to understand the 'Colchoneros' dressing room.
But with in-club politics a large part of the modern Spanish game, Resino knows that he will have to adjust his man-management style when dealing with his multi-millionaire charges.
"In the dressing rooms of the big teams you have to take a different approach. Players are players, but things are slightly different," he added.
"I am taking Miguel Peiro with me, the physical trainer, and in Madrid we will decide who else will join us."
