Snow cuts down fixture list as just three games go ahead
Morecambe recorded a surprise 1-0 win over second-placed Brentford, while Shrewsbury and Rochdale both picked up victories on a weather-affected day in League Two.
The majority of fixtures were postponed because of the heavy snowfall across the country, but in the few games that did go ahead, action was not lacking.
Mid-table strugglers
Morecambe were given little chance ahead of their home tie with high-fliers
Brentford, but a first-half goal from Michael Twiss and a late second from Rene Howe ensured that the form-book was turned on its head.
Worryingly, the 2-0 loss for Brentford represents a missed opportunity to apply pressure on leaders Wycombe in failing to make their game in hand pay.
Meanwhile, promotion-chasers
Shrewsbury stormed into a 2-0 half time lead over
Accrington, courtesy of a Graham Coughlan header and a penalty from Grant Holt after Nick Chadwick was felled by Phil Edwards.
Accrington pressed hard to try and get back into the game, but were guilty of being wasteful in front of goal as Shrewsbury clinched the points to take them into the play-off places.
And in the remaining game of the day,
Rochdale earned a 2-0 victory away at lowly
Chester.
Mark Wright's side had held out for almost an hour, but goals from Joe Thompson and Lee McEvilly secured the win to send Rochdale up to fourth.
