Henri Camara has vowed to prove he is of Premier League calibre having quit Wigan's substitutes' bench to join Stoke City on loan for the rest of the season.
The Senegal international has spent much of this term kicking his heels on the sidelines, being forced to play second fiddle to Amr Zaki and Emile Heskey, who has since moved on to Aston Villa.
Camara's record of 20 goals in 46 top flight starts for Steve Bruce's Latics suggests he could prove to be a useful addition for Tony Pulis, whose Stoke side have at times struggled for goals.
Ricardo Fuller and James Beattie are Stoke's first choice at present but Camara has made it clear he is gunning for a starting XI berth.
Stoke chance
"I had a good pre-season and was scoring goals, and then suddenly I went back on the (Wigan) bench," he told
The Sentinel.
"That's the only reason why I left Wigan. That was not good for me, so that was the only reason that pushed me to come to Stoke. It is so I can get first-team football and show what I can do.
"I know how to score goals and I'm definitely going to do that."
He added: "I know I have scored goals all over. I haven't had much playing time, but if Stoke give me the chance I could get that. My record speaks for itself, so I could definitely do it.
"Whatever the manager asks me to do, I will do it because I know he has been trying to get me since last year.
"I hope the manager will give me my chance. I will take it."
