Beckham in elite company when it comes to gaining 100 caps

David Beckham made his 108th appearance for England when he came off the bench at half-time against Spain in Seville. The honour means that the midfielder has now equalled Bobby Moore's total number of caps for the Three Lions, the most for any outfield player. The pair remain behind goalkeeper Peter Shilton who is the most capped England player of all time with an astonishing 125. In achieving the tally Beckham has joined an elite band of players to reach a century of caps. Here we take a look at the players who have made the list.

Peter Shilton

How current England manager Fabio Capello could do with a keeper of the stature of Shilton right now. Shilton is England's most capped player of all time with a grand total of 125. It is scary to think that, that number could have been much greater had he not had to share the No.1 jersey with Ray Clemence earlier on in his England career. Shilton managed to keep 10 clean sheets in three different World Cups but amazingly the stopper didn't make his World Cup debut until he was 32.

Bobby Moore

England's World Cup winning captain in 1966, the defender's legacy will forever go down in history. The composed nature of his defending meant that he rarely had to go to ground to make a tackle. He was as respected by opposing players as he was by his own team-mates as shown with Pele in the 1970 World Cup. The West Ham legend also captained his country 90 times, a record he shares with Wolves defender Billy Wright.

Bobby Charlton

England's record all time goalscorer with 49 is also the country's fourth most capped player with 106. The Manchester United legend was part of the England team that won the 1966 World Cup on home soil. The year was made even sweeter for the midfielder when he was named European Footballer of the Year. A survivor of the Munich air crash in 1958 the United captain went on to win three League titles, an FA Cup and a European Cup for his club.

Billy Wright

Like Moore he captained his country 90 times out of his 105 caps. The Wolves hero has a statue dedicated to him outside Molineux and he was the first player in the world to reach 100 caps for their country. The defender featured in three consecutive World Cups on his way to 70 England appearances in a row.
