Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti has expressed a desire to represent Argentina at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The defender has a record 127 caps for his country and has already played in two World Cups in 1998 and 2002 but he is yet to get his hands on the famous trophy.
The 35-year-old was controversially left out of Jose Pekermen's 2006 World Cup squad but after a quarter-final penalty defeat to hosts Germany, Zanetti soon found himself recalled to the international fold by new manager Alfio Basile.
Current Argentina boss Diego Maradona has shown faith in the Inter man by selecting him in his two games in charge against Scotland and France.
Ambition
But with Argentina third in the South American World Cup qualifying group, with just 16 points from a possible 30, Zanetti knows that his country still have a fight on their hands to even qualify for South Africa.
"I enjoy what I do day by day," he told
Argentine TV.
"I hope I have the chance to play South American qualifiers as time goes by and the World Cup gets nearer.
"That is my dream and I hope I can make it true. In my opinion Argentina shouldn't have any problem in getting qualified to the World Cup if things are done correctly.
"Anyway it's true that the qualifiers are very difficult. We have to go to places like La Paz, Quito and Asuncion."
