Mark van Bommel is prepared to wait for a revised contract offer from Bayern Munich.
Midfielder cools Schalke talk and awaits new Bayern terms
Mark van Bommel is prepared to wait for a revised contract offer from Bayern Munich, while he has dampened rumours of a switch to Schalke.
The Dutchman's current deal is set to expire in the summer and he is keen to remain at the Allianz Arena for the long-term.
A one-year contract is on the table, but Van Bommel is seeking longer terms, although it remains to be seen if Bayern will match the 31-year-old's demands.
He said at a press conference: "It may take until June before a decision is made. I am open to every proposal.
"At this point I just have the offer from Bayern to extend my contract by one season."
Schalke
Reports have suggested he could seek a move to Bundesliga rivals Schalke following praise from manager Fred Rutten.
But Van Bommel said: "I am in touch with Fred Rutten from time to time, but we do not talk about my situation. We talk about other things."
Schalke coach Rutten told
kicker-Sportmagazin on Thursday: "Mark is a real winner, one that automatically brings you trophies.
"He is a player that I rate and is of my own heart."
