Last-gasp penalty gives Pools away win

Ben Clark kept his cool from the penalty spot to earn Hartlepool a dramatic 1-0 victory at Swindon. Both sides struggled for fluency in a drab encounter at the County Ground, but Clark's late spot-kick - following Jerel Ifil's foul on substitute David Foley - ensured Pools took the points. Swindon's Billy Paynter and Simon Cox worked a good opening for Kevin Amankwaah early on, but the lively winger failed to connect properly with his shot. At the other end Daniel Nardiello cut in from the left before trying his luck, but the shot was comfortably saved by Robins goalkeeper Peter Brezovan. Simon Cox should have opened the scoring for the hosts on the stroke of half-time, but when Michael Timlin's cross to the far post found him with a clear chance, he put his header wide. The second half offered little in the way of goalmouth action until Ifil's error gave Clark the chance to win the game for the visitors - and the midfielder made no mistake.
