Gattuso suggests Juve star opts for South American giants
Italy international Gennaro Gattuso has advised Amauri that he should opt to represent Brazil.
Brazilian-born striker Amauri is eligible for both countries after playing most of his professional career in Italy.
Amauri was called up by Brazil coach Dunga for a friendly with Italy earlier this month but was blocked from playing by Juventus, after the club said the call came too late.
Of the situation, AC Milan midfielder Gattuso said: "There's no debating he's a great player, but I don't think he's handled the situation so well.
Respect
"First he said he was waiting for Brazil, and we are - with all respect - not Azerbaijan or Finland."
"We've won four World Cups and our football is as good as anyone's. I think Amauri should play for Brazil," Gattuso added in Thursday's
Gazzetta dello Sport.
Speaking after Juve's 1-0 loss to Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, Amauri said: "I don't care at all what Gattuso says,"
In an interview with
Sky Italia, Dunga said it would be 'tough' to call up Amauri again.
"There are a lot of options in Brazil," Dunga said.
Decision
"We have Luis Fabiano, who scores a goal every time he plays for the national team; Adriano, who has played three games and scored twice; and (Alexandre) Pato, who is improving, and others.
"You've got to bring players with different characteristics onto the national team."
As for Gattuso's comments, Dunga said, "You can only judge when you feel the decision in your own skin. It's very easy for others to judge."
