Striker backing Quakers to beat the odds
Darlington striker Gregg Blundell has backed his team-mates to grab a play-off spot this season.
The Quakers were recently hit with a ten-point deduction by the Football Association for entering administration.
They now sit ten points adrift of the promotion chasing pack, although they do have two games in hand over most of their rivals.
With that in mind, former Doncaster forward Blundell has told
skysports.com that he believes Dave Penney's side are still capable of springing an upset and securing a top-seven finish.
"The players have all taken it really well and are prepared to roll their sleeves up. We are looking at the situation now as though automatic promotion is probably out of reach, but if we win the games in hand then we are back in with a shout of the play-offs," he said.
"We want to send a message out to everyone else that despite the turmoil and the worry, which players will feel if they aren't getting paid, we can stay positive and remain on target for promotion.
"If we can kick on and go up this season it will show what strong characters we are."
Frustrating
Blundell has been sidelined for the past couple of weeks through injury and revealed his frustration at not being able to help the Quakers dig their way out of trouble.
"It is going okay at the moment, but I can't rush it and with the timescale I have been given for recovery I'm going to be on the sidelines until maybe the last week of the season really," he added.
"In that aspect it is very disappointing because no matter how hard I push it to get back sooner, it isn't going to heal any quicker.
"I only went in estimating that I'd be out for just a couple of weeks and now I'm facing longer out, so it is frustrating."
