Italians eye Euro 2016

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) have confirmed their interest in hosting Euro 2016. Just a day after Scotland & Wales confirmed their joint bid would not be proceeding, Italy have insisted they are keen. Italy mounted a bid for Euro 2012 - which went to Ukraine & Poland, but they are ready to bid again. FIGC president Giancarlo Abete confirmed his country's interest in bidding. "Italy is interested in hosting the 2016 European Championship," Abete told Radio Anch'io Sport. "We will speak about it at our council." Abete also added that Italy would be happy to test out Uefa chief Michel Platini's idea of having an additional two referees in either penalty area. "We are ready to experiment with the idea of two referees in the penalty area," Abete explained. "It will depend on what Fifa and Uefa decide. "But I believe that Italian football, because of its complexity, would be a good test-bed for the proposals."
