Unibond striker to make step up to Championship
George Donnelly's dream move from Skelmersdale United to Plymouth Argyle has finally been agreed after months of speculation.
The 20-year-old striker will make the giant leap from the Unibond League to the Championship in what promises to be a massive step in his career.
"It feels great to not have to worry about work and just do what I love doing," said Donnelly.
"I used to work in a warehouse and get up at five in the morning, so I would train on a Thursday and play matches on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
"It is life-changing," he added.
The leap to the Championship will surely be a difficult task for Donnelly to adapt to immediately, but he will have help from a familiar old face.
Plymouth Argyle midfielder Craig Noone was once a team-mate at Skelmersdale before his own move into the Football League, and Donnelly hopes this can help him settle at Home Park.
"Craig being here helps me to settle in," he said.
"All the players at that level just want to move on and the manager here has told me to fight for my place in the first-team, and show what I can do.
"My pace has probably got me this far and I am excited to be in a situation where I can help the team, and show what I can do.
"I have watched these players on TV but I feel I can do well once I get the fitness from full-time training. I want to play a few reserve games and work my way up.
"I have all kinds of thoughts going through my head. It is a long (way) from home but I do have family not too far away."
