Crewe march on with 1-0 victory

Calvin Zola's second-half winner boosted Crewe's survival hopes as play-off hopefuls Colchester were beaten 1-0 Zola struck just after the hour mark to give the Railwaymen three precious points in their relegation battle. Colchester bossed the first half, with Marc Tierney's low shot clipping the far post and a minute later Crewe goalkeeper John Ruddy tipped over Kem Izzet's clever chip. Ruddy foiled David Perkins twice in the space of a minute after half-time but it was Crewe who broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute when Zola squeezed a shot inside the near post from close range. Crewe had chances to add to their lead but Zola's strike proved to be enough.
