Veteran striker breaks through the 300-goal barrier
A brace for Filippo Inzaghi in AC Milan's 5-1 win over Siena on Sunday has taken him past 300 goals.
The 35-year-old striker has often come in for criticism throughout his distinguished career, but there can be no arguments against his ability to be in the right place at the right time.
He has made a living as one of the finest poachers in the business, winning a stack full of trophies and personal accolades along the way.
He admits he is delighted to have achieved so much in the game, with his latest achievement coming in the twilight of his playing days.
Ironically his very first goal came against Siena and Inzaghi admits it is strange how things have gone full circle for him.
"I consider myself to be a very lucky guy," he told
Sky Italia.
Pride
"Today I celebrate reaching a target that gives me a lot of pride.
"Destiny is incredible. The first goal I scored was against Siena, and to get 300 goals is a remarkable achievement.
"The most important ones were probably the double I scored in Athens (during a 2-1 UEFA Champions League final victory over Liverpool in 2007), but there have been plenty of memorable ones. Every goal has particular significance to a striker."
While Inzaghi was left to reflect on a positive afternoon, Milan's comprehensive victory was marred by injuries to Christian Abbiati and Kaka.
Experienced keeper Abbiati has suffered suspected knee ligament damage, but he will require further scans before the full extent of the problem is revealed.
Brazilian superstar Kaka was withdrawn during the second half after taking a hefty blow to his foot, but the knock is not believed to be serious.
