Italy international expected to sign new contract

Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani is eager to stay at the Stadio Olimpico, according to the player's agent. The 24-year-old has been involved in long-running contract negotiations without reaching an agreement, sparking speculation that he could be considering a move elsewhere. Aquilani has been linked with Arsenal in the past as it is rumoured manager Arsene Wenger is a fan of the Italy international, who featured as a substitute in Roma's UEFA Champions League last-16 penalty shoot-out defeat to the Gunners. But Aquilani's representative, Franco Zavaglia, insists discussions with Roma president Rosella Sensi are progressing well. "With Rosella Sensi there are no problems, we expect to finish these contract talks with Roma," Zavaglia told Radio Kiss Kiss. "When there are contracts, you need a certain period of time to define everything, because the intention is for Aquilani to remain with Roma, so I do not think there will be big problems."
