Injured Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz has been named in Paraguay's squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
South Americans want to assess striker's fitness
Paraguay are risking incurring the wrath of Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce after including Roque Santa Cruz in their squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Santa Cruz has been named in head coach Gerardo Martino's 28-man squad for the games against Uruguay and Ecuador despite struggling with a knee injury.
The 27-year-old has been unable to train for the last two weeks and he is not expected to play in this weekend's clash with West Ham.
However, Martino is keen to assess Santa Cruz's fitness even though he concedes he is unlikely to be fit in time for the two qualifiers.
"The doctor and the kinesiologist have travelled to England to talk to the club doctor and the player. We have to analyse the situation for these two matches but our main goal is how to continue in the future," said Martino.
"The chances of him playing are small but we want to know what will happen in the future, how his injury will be treated and the steps they (Blackburn and Santa Cruz) expect to make."
