Seagulls stopper has damaged kidney removed

Brighton physio Malcolm Stuart has confirmed defender Jim McNulty has successfully had a kidney removed. The 24-year-old former Stockport full-back damaged his kidney in The Seagulls' recent 4-0 League One defeat to Crewe. Stuart expects McNulty to make a full recovery but feels it is unlikely he will be fit for the start of next season

Damage too extensive

"He underwent surgery on Friday," Stuart told the club's official website. "The idea was still to try to save the kidney if we could but the damage was too great. "It was a long and painful operation but he is making a steady recovery and we see no reason at all why he should not return to full fitness. "Ten per cent of the population walk around with only one kidney, so it is not going to be a problem career-wise, but it is obviously a big blow to Jim."
