Gunners defender returns for reserves

Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre is keen to play his part as the Gunners target a successful end to the season. Arsene Wenger's men are through to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, the semi-finals of the FA Cup and are in pole position to secure fourth place in the Premier League after an earlier wobble. The former Manchester United centre-back has not featured since suffering a tendon injury against Plymouth in the third round of the FA Cup with complications keeping him out longer than the anticipated month. French defender Silvestre came through a 90 minute outing for the club's second string against Chelsea reserves on Monday night and is now keen to boost Wenger's options ahead of a crucial spell for the club. The Blues will be Arsenal's opponents in the last four of the FA Cup while Villarreal stand in their way of progress in Europe.

"It was very good to be back," Silvestre told the club's official website. "There have been so many big games and the team is doing well so you want to enjoy that as much as you can and be involved. "I am glad of our progress and hopefully I can join in now." Arsenal headed into the international break full of confidence after the 3-1 win at Newcastle extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 16 matches.
