Flynn's youngsters begin 'new dawn' in Ettelbruck

Wales Under 21s begin their 2011 European Championship qualifying campaign with a trip to Luxembourg on Friday. Brian Flynn's team narrowly missed out on a place in this summer's finals following a play-off defeat to England and they will be keen to make a bright start as they bid to go one step further. It is Wales' first match since the 5-4 aggregate setback to England in October and Flynn has been forced to make changes ahead of the meeting in Ettelbruck. A number of members of the squad that lost to England have progressed from the U21 set-up and Flynn has selected fresh faces, which he describes as a 'new dawn'.

Promoted

Flynn has seen a host of players move into John Toshack's senior squad and his side, who are also joined in Group 3 by Italy, Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina, is likely to consist of a number of teenagers. The U21s now have to do without Wayne Hennessey, Jack Collison, Gareth Bale, Chris Gunter, Aaron Ramsey, Lewin Nyatanga, Neal Eardley, David Edwards, Sam Vokes and Ched Evans - who have all made it into the full squad. Flynn has also lost four players from his original squad, with Rhys Taylor (Chelsea), Joe Partington (Bournemouth), Kayne McLaggon (Southampton) out through injury. However, Toshack has released Neal Eardley (Oldham) and Rhys Williams (Middlesbrough), who had been promoted to the senior squad. The newcomers, all uncapped, are James Bloom (Cardiff), Ashley Richards (Swansea), Chris Maxwell (Wrexham), Casey Thomas (Swansea) and 17 year-old Jake Taylor (Reading).
