Williams may feature; Gobern and Hackney in squad for visitors

Play-off hopefuls Scunthorpe United tackle Colchester United at Glanford Park in League One on Saturday. Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins could welcome defender Marcus Williams back into his starting line-up for the clash. Williams made his return from a broken metatarsal in the reserves on Tuesday and is poised to come in for on-loan Southampton full-back Joseph Mills who is struggling with an Achilles injury. Captain Cliff Byrne is rated as 50-50 with a lower back injury, so Andrew Wright is on standby and striker Ben May is fit again after an ankle ligament problem. Midfielder Grant McCann is unavailable as he is away on international duty with Northern Ireland, with Sam Togwell set to replace him after a stomach strain. Long-term absentees Garry Thompson (pelvis) and Kenny Milne (knee) will definitely miss out.

Colchester team news

Lewis Gobern and Simon Hackney should be added to the Colchester squad for the trip to Scunthorpe. Gobern played for the reserves in midweek to prove his fitness following a hamstring injury, and fellow winger Hackney is expected to be available after a groin problem. Striker Steven Gillespie is still struggling with an ankle injury so loanee Karl Hawley continues in attack alongside Clive Platt. Recent signing Ashley Vincent is close to returning from a knee injury but will probably have to wait for his debut while another wideman, Anthony Wordsworth, picked up a knock in the reserve game and will be checked over. Centre-half Paul Reid is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
