Hosts hopeful over Hamshaw while Chester suffer injury crisis

Notts County host Chester as the visitors look for a much needed three points that would help them in their bid to avoid the drop. Mark Wright's team sit second bottom, three points from safety, and have not tasted success for 18 league games. Meanwhile Notts County are unbeaten in two league games but have seemingly nothing to play for this season. With just six games remaining County find themselves 16 points off the play-offs and 14 above the drop zone so a mid-table finish seems a certainty.

Notts County boss Ian McParland is sweating on the fitness of several players ahead of the clash. Midfielder Matt Hamshaw suffered a dead leg in last week's draw at Lincoln but has returned to training and hopes to make the game. Jamie Clapham and Michael Johnson both sustained calf injuries at Sincil Bank but are also expected to be fit. Adam Tann has missed most of training this week after coming down with flu and is rated as doubtful, while Stephen Hunt (ankle) and Russell Hoult (shoulder) are the only confirmed absentees for County.
Chester team news
Wright has just 13 fit professionals to choose from but remains adamant his relegation-threatened side can beat the drop. Defender Shaun Kelly, Damien Mozika, fellow midfielder Stephen Vaughan and Jay Harris are all out, but striker Kevin Ellison is expected to shake off a knock to continue in the side. Kelly (knee) is nearing a return but is not set to feature until next week's fixture at home to Macclesfield, while Mozika continues to be plagued by hamstring problems. Vaughan remains absent with an Achilles problem while Harris has septic tonsillitis. Despite their numerous problems, Wright believes City can overturn the three-point deficit at the foot of the table. "If we can go and win at the weekend and they both (Grimsby and Bournemouth) lose it's going to be wide, wide open," he told the Chester Chronicle. "And don't forget, we've still got the likes of Bournemouth to come to us so there is everything to play for and we are still in there fighting."
