Former Atletico man replaces departed Sven

Mexico have appointed Javier Aguirre as their coach for a second time following Sven Goran Eriksson's dismissal on Thursday. The Mexican Soccer Federation have wasted little time in naming Eriksson's successor as they bid to rejuvenate a stuttering World Cup qualifying campaign. Former Atletico Madrid coach Aguirre led Mexico at the 2002 World Cup and is well regarded for his previous stint at the helm. Eriksson, 61, was fired barely ten months into the job as Wednesday's 3-1 loss to Honduras in a World Cup qualifier proved to be the final nail in his coffin. The Swede's disappointment at being dismissed is likely to be softened by a reported $3.5million pay-off.
