Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho insists that the club offered support to troubled striker Adriano.
Inter boss says club wanted to support Adriano
Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho insists that his club have done everything possible to help unsettled striker Adriano.
The 27-year-old Brazilian travelled to his home country at the end of last month for international duty and has not returned to Italy since.
He announced on Thursday that he was taking some time off football as he had "lost the happiness of playing".
Mourinho says that support was offered to Adriano by the club but is refusing to discuss the matter any further than that.
"I didn't want to talk about this before and I'm not going to talk about it now either," he said.
Everything
"Inter have done everything possible to help him before I arrived and since I've arrived.
"If he stops playing and becomes a happy man then that's perfect. I've not yet spoken to him but we have to understand the reason for these words. We'll see."
Gilmar Rinaldi, who is Adriano's agent, has travelled to Milan recently, but Mourinho did not shed any light on whether he had made the trip in order to negotiate the termination of the Brazilian's contract.
He added: "He [Adriano] was the first one to speak about that and it's up to him to do what he wants. All I know is what I read in the press."
Adriano is currently staying in Rio de Janiero, reportedly in the favela where he was raised. He says that he will be living there for the foreseeable future.
"I'm not planning an immediate return to Italy. I'll be unhappy there," he said.
"I need to think about my career. I'm not happy in Italy. I am here in Brazil with my family and friends."
