Dortmund striker signs new two-year contract extension until 2012

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Nelson Valdez has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2012. The 25-year-old has scored just six league goals this season but is highly rated by manager Jurgen Klopp. The news also ends speculation that the striker was set to join Turkish side Fenerbahce at the end of the season. Since joining Dortmund from Werder Bremen in July 2006 the Paraguayan has not enjoyed the smoothest of rides, in his first season he went on a run of scoring once in 29 league games, but the club were delighted with the deal. "We have finally been able to finish the negotiations with Nelson," general manager Michael Zorc told the club's official website.

Determined

Meanwhile, Nelson is determined to put the lows of the previous season firmly behind him. "A couple of reasons played a part," he told Bild. "Jurgen Klopp knows how to keep me on my toes after the hard times I went through. "After the red card against Hannover this season, which was tough for me, I was uncertain. "But I thankfully did not give up. I know how to score at club level and not only for Paraguay."
