Rangers assistant hoping defender will agree new contract
Ally McCoist insists Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot has not been asked to leave the club to help ease the wage bill.
Contract negotiations with the Scotland international recently broke down, prompting speculation over his future at Ibrox.
Reports claimed that the Gers would be willing to sell the 24-year-old in the summer in an attempt to trim the size of Walter Smith's squad.
However, Smith's assistant McCoist is hoping the club can agree a new deal with Broadfoot and has brushed off rumours over the player's future.
Very hopeful
"I've got to be honest - I've not read a newspaper today and one of the other lads said to me about the story," said McCoist.
"As far as I'm concerned, Kirk's advisors will hopefully sit down with our people and something can get ironed out.
"Somebody said to me that he has been asked to leave, but that's news to me. I don't think that's the case at all, absolutely not.
"If it is, I certainly don't know about it and in my opinion, I'm very hopeful we can get the situation sorted."
