Attacking midfielder reportedly poised to strike agreement

Pontus Wernbloom has hinted that he could be set to join Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar. Swedish midfielder Wernbloom is currently contracted to IFK Goteborg but reports suggest he is poised to leave for Holland. It is claimed he will fly to Alkmaar to undergo a medical before agreeing a four-year contract with the table-topping side. The 22-year-old told Expressen: "Of course I want to play abroad. "There is a big interest from Alkmaar, but whether I fly there tomorrow (Wednesday) or not is not something I wish to comment on." Meanwhile, AZ Alkmaar midfielder Stijn Schaars has lost his appeal against the three-match ban, of which one game is suspended, handed down for his sending-off against Ajax. The decision means Schaars will miss AZ's final two games of the season against FC Twente and Heerenveen. Schaars was dismissed for a professional foul on Vurnon Anita in the 1-1 draw on Sunday, but was unhappy with the red card shown by referee Pieter Vink.
