Wolfsburg striker Grafite is set to sign a two-year contract extension which will keep him at the club until 2013.
The surprise Bundesliga leaders are thought to want to tie the Brazilian down to a longer deal to warn off any interested parties in the in-form 30-year-old.
The former Sao Paulo ace has netted 22 league goals in just 20 outings, giving him a total of 33 goals in just 44 games since signing from Le Mans in 2007.
Grafite, who was selling bin bags just eight years ago, shot into the spotlight recently when he scored what has been described as one of the best ever Bundesliga goals when he dribbled past three Bayern Munich players before back-heeling the ball home.
"We are in the middle of negotiations," the player's agent Roger Wittmann told
Kicker.
"We are going to meet again in ten days time and we are going to see what will happen then."
Felix Magath's side currently sit top of the table, two points ahead of Hertha Berlin and only three ahead of Bayern Munich, Stuttgart and Hamburg.
