Former Inter striker keen to return to his roots
Brazilian striker Adriano is in talks to make an emotional return to Flamengo, the club where he began his career.
The burly frontman saw his contract at Inter Milan terminated last week after failing to return to Italy after a World Cup qualifier.
He made it clear that he had no intention of heading back to Europe after growing disillusioned with life at Giuseppe Meazza.
Adriano did admit, however, that he would welcome the opportunity to resurrect his career in his homeland, with Flamengo his preferred destination.
It appears as though he may now get his wish, with discussions regarding a deal now underway.
"I've had an initial contact with Flamengo. Adriano asked me to see what Flamengo had to offer," said his agent Gilmar Rinaldi.
"The romance has begun but we cannot yet present any details."
Willing
Flamengo president Delari Dumbrosck is keen for an agreement to be reached, believing Adriano will help to raise the profile of the club at home and abroad.
"He wants it, he's willing and that's important for us," he said.
"We're talking to the future sponsor of the club and the future kit supplier. I think Adriano will strengthen the Flamengo brand and help us in our contract with the sponsor."
Dumbrosck is also keen to avoid a repeat of the situation which saw Flamengo come agonisingly close to landing Brazil legend Ronaldo last year, only to miss out to arch-rivals Corinthians.
"We're going to work on this and we're not going to let him go to Corinthians, Santos or Vasco," he added.
"I think the risk is worth it, look at Ronaldo."
