The PFA have chosen their star men for the 2008/09 campaign but do you agree with their choices?
Skysports.com wants to hear your views on the best players from the 2008/09 campaign
With the Professional Footballers' Association having dished out their annual awards,
skysports.com wants to hear your views on who you feel have been the stand-out performers in the 2008/09 campaign.
In a series of features we will be looking to compile a team made up of players voted for by you - the fans.
Logic dictates that every good team needs a solid right-back so we will be continuing our search for the Premier League's best XI in that slot.
The PFA voted Portsmouth's Glen Johnson as their top choice, but do you agree with that verdict?
We have selected eight candidates we feel are worthy of gracing any side and all you have to do is choose your favourite.
Alvaro Arbeloa - Liverpool
Dependable, yet not particularly spectacular, Arbeloa appears to fit Rafa Benitez's ideal mould for a full-back. The Spaniard is not renowned for his buccaneering runs, although he does have two assists to his name this season, but his discipline in a rigid Liverpool back-four affords him a nomination to be named right-back of the year.
Jose Bosingwa - Chelsea
Unlike Arbeloa, Bosingwa is a snarling beast of a player when rampaging forward. Often he appears to operate as a right-winger rather than a defender. His record of four Premier League goals and two assists in his debut season in England speaks volumes. Question marks remain over his defensive nous, but his recent job on tricky Lionel Messi heightened his reputation.
Vedran Corluka - Tottenham Hotspur
In the absence of the injured Alan Hutton, Corluka has proved sound. Not the usual build for a full-back - he stands at 6ft 3in - yet his presence has grown as Spurs' season has turned on its head, while he has formed a decent understanding with winger Aaron Lennon. To date, he has made 33 league appearances, assisting his club to 11 clean sheets. With Hutton now fit, the Scot will be aware he faces a stern test in usurping the Croatian.
Glen Johnson - Portsmouth
Arguably the favourite to win the prize, and not simply because he is English. Johnson has been the lifeboat of a sinking Portsmouth vessel. His form so impressive that England manager Fabio Capello appears to see him as his long-term first-choice. Johnson's positioning has improved this term, while his pace and power have even seen him deployed as a right midfielder under steadier-of-the-ship Paul Hart.
Mario Melchiot - Wigan Athletic
Indeed, an outsider and a bold call to be chosen in the top eight. Many Manchester United supporters will no doubt be red-faced at the omission of Rafael, but 13 league appearances is not enough. Experienced Dutchman Melchiot, on the other hand, has made 29. Melchiot has impressed during these displays, rarely putting a foot wrong for the Europa League-chasing Latics.
John Pantsil - Fulham
Yet another masterstroke by contender for manager of the season Roy Hodgson? After an indifferent spell at West Ham, Pantsil signed for the previously relegation-threatened Cottagers last summer. The Ghanaian has gone about his work in efficient fashion at Craven Cottage, proving reliable in a back-four that boasts the fourth best 'goals against' column in the top flight.
Bacary Sagna - Arsenal
Sagna has made the transition from abroad to England look rather simple. The Frenchman has continued to add a much-needed calmness to the Gunners backline, although recently a virus appears to have left him jaded. Often unnoticed in matches, 26-year-old Sagna, on his day, is up there with the top right-backs in Europe. Put Emmanuel Eboue in a tested Arsenal defence and you will soon see the difference.
Gretar Steinsson - Bolton Wanderers
Who gives two hoots if Steinsson meant that outrageous goal on the opening day of the season? It was ruddy marvellous to look at. Since then, he has added another league goal to his tally while, and this is excellent, he has six assists to his name. That is no mean feat at a club that have battled against relegation. The Iceland international is probably an outsider for your vote though.
