Manager quits Darlo to take over at Boundary Park

Oldham Athletic, as expected, have named Dave Penney as their new manager. Penney cleared the way for his move to Boundary Park by resigning as Darlington manager earlier on Thursday. The former Doncaster chief has agreed a two-year deal to succeed Joe Royle as Oldham boss. Oldham managing director Simon Corney was delighted to appoint Penney after he impressed during interviews at the League One club. "We are delighted to be able to welcome a manager of Dave's calibre to Boundary Park," Corney told the club's official website. "He is a very professional and thorough person who ticked all the boxes and who has an excellent track record." Penney will officially take charge after the final game of the season against Walsall this weekend.
