Skysports.com looks at the best and worst moments from this weekend's games in the Premier League.
Team of the week
Game of the weekend -
Chelsea 3 Fulham 1
Chelsea may have been criticised for adopting a negative approach to their UEFA Champions League clash with Barcelona in midweek but they were full of positive intent against London rivals Fulham. Much of the drama arrived in the opening ten minutes as Nicolas Anelka's classy opener was cancelled out by Erik Nevland, before Florent Malouda restored the Blues' advantage. Anelka combined well with Drogba throughout the match and the Frenchman played in his strike partner for a third goal early in the second half.
Player of the weekend -
Ryan Giggs
It had not been a bad week for Giggs before he started Manchester United's clash with Middlesbrough, having been named as the PFA Player of the Year last Sunday and made his 800th appearance for the club against Arsenal. The Welshman was not satisfied, however, and delivered a fitting performance in the champions' 2-0 win. He scored the opening goal with a composed finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the area and was a constant threat for the whole 90 minutes.
Goal of the weekend -
Diego Tristan
There were several fine goals this weekend but perhaps the most eye-catching was a stunning strike from Tristan which earned West Ham a 1-0 win at Stoke. Abdoulaye Faye brought down David Di Michele in a central position just outside the area and Tristan stepped up to take the free-kick and whip his effort beyond Thomas Sorensen and into the top corner.
Save of the weekend -
Jussi Jaaskelainen
Heurelho Gomes pulled off a number of fine stops in Tottenham's victory over West Brom but he was overshadowed by the display of Jaaskelainen for Bolton. The Finland international was in inspired form in an entertaining stalemate at the JJB Stadium. He denied Hugo Rodallega and Charles N'Zogbia with athletic saves but the pick of the bunch came when he leapt to his right to tip Mido's curling effort over the crossbar.
Pass of the weekend -
Wayne Rooney
Rooney only marginally missed out on our Player of the Weekend prize but his contribution to Manchester United's latest win cannot be ignored. The 23-year-old terrorised Middlesbrough at The Riverside and set up Park Ji-sung in style for the South Korean to make it 2-0. Having been heavily involved in a flowing passing move, Rooney played a glorious reverse ball which completely deceived David Wheater and presented Park with an opportunity he took full advantage of.
Sporting gesture of the weekend -
Andrey Arshavin
Modern technology means it rarely goes unnoticed when a footballer has blatantly dived in an attempt to win a free-kick or penalty, even if referees cannot help but get conned on occasions. It makes a refreshing change, therefore, to find that Arshavin was honest enough to admit that he had not been felled by Sean Davis in Arsenal's 3-0 success against Portsmouth. The Russian took a tumble following an excellent challenge by Davis but sprung to his feet and pointed to the corner flag, before shaking his finger at Lee Mason's decision to award a spot-kick. Unfortunately for Pompey, Mason stuck to his guns and Nicklas Bendtner coolly converted the penalty.
Worst tackle of the weekend -
Joey Barton
At the other end of the spectrum from Arshavin was a sickening challenge by Barton towards the end of Newcastle's 3-0 defeat at Liverpool. The Magpies midfielder, making his first appearance since breaking a metatarsal in January, was sent off following a two-footed lunge on Xabi Alonso which forced the Liverpool man to leave the field on a stretcher.
