Allen lines up targets following relegation to League Two
Cheltenham Town manager Martin Allen is hoping Shane Duff will agree a new contract at Whaddon Road.
Duff, who missed four months through injury earlier this season, is out of contract in the summer, but has been offered terms to stay.
With the Robins suffering relegation to League Two, Allen is cutting his cloth accordingly with regards to wages for his current players and potential targets.
He is unsure if Andy Lindegaard and Paul Connor will stay with the club, but is eager to keep hold of long-serving defender Duff.
Breath of fresh air
"We've got lists of players in various positions we are looking at and we have been speaking to their agents over the last few weeks," said Allen.
"I have to see what they get offered from other clubs because we can't afford the wages some of them command at the moment, but we might be in a position to offer them something.
"Having Shane Duff back is like a breath of fresh air and I've tried for about a month to keep him here.
"I've offered him a good contract, I'm in negotiations with his agent and I want him to stay.
"With Andrew Lindegaard, it's similar to Paul Connor in that they have to look and see what's about. If they can't get anything then come back to me and see if we can do something, so the door is not closed on either of them."
