Striker 'deeply sorry' over newspaper allegations
West Brom striker Roman Bednar has made a public apology after he was allegedly caught buying drugs following the win over Wigan.
The 26-year-old Czech Republic striker has been suspended by the club while an internal investigation takes place following photographs and an article in Sunday's
News of the World.
Bednar admits he is embarrassed by his behaviour with the story being published just hours prior to the Baggies' relegation from the Premier League.
"I am sorry and deeply regretful for the stories that have emerged in the press today and the embarrassment and negative publicity it has brought to the directors, players and staff of West Bromwich Albion football club and all the supporters," he said in a statement to
Sport Invest.
"My biggest disappointment today is of the team's relegation to the Championship and I sincerely hope to have the opportunity to help the club regain promotion next season."
Bednar's agent David Travnicek said: "I have already met with Roman and we discussed the situation, which is very serious.
"On Monday or Tuesday I will be discussing his future with the club's representatives."

Czech Republic coach Frantisek Straka has condemned Bednar's behaviour, admitting that before the controversy he had considered calling the striker up for June's friendly match against Malta.
He said: "I knew he had been having injury problems recently, so I was going to call him to see if he was fit or not.
"But his scandal is absolutely inexcusable, a stupid behaviour.
"Formerly, I wanted to call him up for the friendly match against Malta which is on 5th June, but now it is absolutely out of the question to see a player after such controversy in the national team."
