Left-back has put Champions League nightmare behind him says boss
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed 19-year old Kieran Gibbs for his performances since coming into the side and believes he will one day play for England.
Gibbs has been deputising for the injured Gael Clichy for the closing weeks of the season and has impressed his boss enough for him to suggest a future of international football beckons.
The left-back had come under a bit of pressure following his costly error which led to the opening goal in Arsenal's second leg UEFA Champions League semi-final defeat to Manchester United, but Wenger insists Gibbs will learn from his errors.
"This year, a player like Kieran Gibbs has been a revelation. I believe he will play for England, and if it happened very quickly, I would not be surprised," said Wenger.
"However, what happened to him in the second leg of the Manchester United game will not happen to him next year.
"We have discovered a player that at the start of the season, no one expected to see."
Title Challenge
Arsenal have been some way off the pace of the title challengers this season and only impressive form in the second half of the campaign has seen them secure the last Champions League qualification spot.
However, Wenger believes the gap between themselves and champions Manchester United has been closed despite the points tally difference.
"Man United won only one game against the top four. Where Man United made a difference was between 10 and 20 (game weeks), they were more consistent and found their stride in the right moment of the season.
"But I believe nobody is installed indefinitely in the top four and can say 'okay' we are miles ahead'. I do not believe that at all."
