Barca slip again, while Recre and Numancia are relegated

Barcelona slipped to a second consecutive defeat as they warmed up for the UEFA Champions League final. Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid's fine form continued on the road and Villarreal proved too strong for Valencia at El Madrigal. Barcelona may have wrapped up the Primera Liga title but they have won just one of their last five fixtures after slipping to a 1-0 defeat against lowly Osasuna. An under-strength Barca side fell to a Walter Pandiani effort after 26 minutes at Camp Nou, with the visitors climbing out of the relegation zone as a result of their success. A poor night for Pep Guardiola's side was compounded nine minutes from the end when Marc Muniesa was given his marching orders. Atletico Madrid claimed a fifth consecutive victory as they eased past a blow par Athletic Bilbao. Raul Garcia (62) fired the capital giants in front just past the hour-mark, before Xabier Etxeita levelled matters five minutes later. Diego Forlan then bagged a quick-fire brace (73 & 77) to all but wrap up the points for Abel Resino's men. There was, however, still time for the Uruguayan hit-man to complete his hat-trick as he made no mistake from the penalty spot with three minutes left on the clock. Villarreal will still harbour ambitions of snatching a Champions League spot after they saw off Valencia 3-1. Joseba Llorente was on target twice for the hosts (15 & 31) as they burst out of the blocks. David Villa pulled one back for Los Che four minutes before the interval, but Ruben Garcia put the seal on a good night for the Yellow Submarines when he notched their third on 66 minutes. Espanyol claimed a sixth win in seven outings as they overcame Almeria 3-0. Daniel Ivan Alonso was the star of the show as he bagged two goals (26 & 72) either side of the interval. Ferran Corominas was also on target as he struck in injury-time. Recreativo Huelva suffered a ninth defeat in 10 games as their fate was sealed by Racing Santander. A solitary strike from Nikola Zigic after 77 minutes settled the contest and condemned Recre to the drop. They will be joined in the second tier next season by Numancia who were beaten 1-0 by Getafe. Roberto Soldado Rillo's 61st minute effort proved to be the difference in a match between two struggling sides, with the visitors seeing Gorka Brit dismissed late on. Real Valladolid have now gone 10 games without a win after they went down 2-1 at home to Sporting Gijon. Diego Camacho (44) broke the deadlock moments before the interval and would have been disappointed to see Sesma Jonathan level matters on 71 minutes. Gijon were not to be denied, though, and took the spoils courtesy of Mate Bilic's 80th minute winner. Sevilla maintained their grip on third spot in the table with a dramatic 1-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna. Argentine youngster Diego Perotti notched his first Liga goal for the men from Andalusia as he found the net in the dying seconds. The final game on a busy night of action in Spain saw Malaga held 1-1 at home by Real Betis. Luis Edu put the away side in front two minutes before half-time and Albert Luque snatched an equaliser seven minutes from the end.
