Pittodrie old boy would also bring in Atkinson on coaching team
Noel Whelan has confirmed his interest in becoming Aberdeen's new boss and would include Ron Atkinson on his management team.
Aberdeen are in the market for a new manager after Jimmy Calderwood's departure following the end of the SPL season.
Former Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson has applied for the job, while Dean Windass and Peter Nicholas have also been linked with the Pittodrie position.
Whelan, who spent the 2004/05 season at Aberdeen, is also keen on the role and revealed ex-Manchester United boss Atkinson has agreed to join him in Scotland if his application is successful.
Fresh ideas
The 34-year-old told the
Press and Journal: "I've completed my UEFA B licence and I am sitting my UEFA A qualification.
"I may not have managerial experience, but I believe I can provide Aberdeen with fresh ideas.
"I have got a team together willing to come with me if I got the job.
"One is a former team-mate of mine and Ron is a former Premier League manager with one of the best clubs in the division with a wealth of experience."
