Cypriots look to swoop for ex-Hearts midfielder

Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo has expressed his sadness over Bruno Aguiar's departure from Tynecastle with Omonia Nicosia his likely destination. The 28-year-old rejected the Jambos' offer of a contract extension after his deal with the club expired at the end of the season. Despite reported interest from Old Firm duo Rangers and Celtic, the Portuguese ace looks set to follow ex-Hearts team-mate Christos Karipidis to Cyprus after the defender signed a pre-contract agreement with Omonia. The former Benfica man has been a regular for Hearts this season, scoring an impressive seven goals from midfield, and Laszlo is disappointed he could not persuade Aguiar to stay. "I am sorry for Bruno, he is out," the Jambos boss told the Edinburgh News. "I think we gave him a good possibility to present his talent. "I am sad to hear he has left the club and he won't accept our offer."

Money talks

Laszlo understands the player's reasons for leaving and admits that he would not be budged over his strict wage structure for just one player. "The other side is my strategy and I convinced Mr Romanov that I don't like to have too much gap in salaries," he added. "We must be serious. I can understand Bruno is not very young and we must accept this. It is always a question of money. "Bruno and Karipidis had key roles in my team and I am very sad to lose these two players not only because of their talent but their character."
