Ricardo Gomes left Monaco at the end of the season after the club opted against offering the Brazilian a new deal.
A host of names have been linked with the role at Stade Louis II, but Monaco have decided to move for Lacombe.
Lacombe guided Rennes to seventh spot in Ligue 1 this season and the final of the French Cup.
Monaco will be hoping Lacombe can reverse the club's fortunes after a disappointing last few seasons in the Principality.
