Sky Sports News and the famed yellow ticker unveiled itself before scrolling from right to left with a story that had you leaping out of your seat with surprise.
Of course, much of the season's drama unfurled in the North East, as headline after dizzying headline unravelled. In September 2008, we saw rumour run wild until it was finally confirmed Kevin Keegan had left his role at St James' Park.
And then, on April Fools' Day, Toon legend Alan Shearer, with head coach Joe Kinnear recovering from triple heart bypass surgery, finally answered the Magpies' SOS call and took over on Tyneside.
On the transfer front we saw much drama in the final hours as Dimitar Berbatov, still a Tottenham Hotspur player at the time, was spotted at Old Trafford before a £30.75million deal for the Bulgarian was finally tied up.
But the stand-out story for shock value of the season came during last summer's transfer window when Manchester City's financial clout, courtesy of owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, became apparent.
Most expected Real Madrid star Robinho to be heading to Chelsea, with then manager Luiz Felipe Scolari eyeing a memorable coup of his Brazilian compatriot at Stamford Bridge.
However, after talks had broken down between Real and the Blues, the Brazilian, amid outrageous bids from City for a number of stars, headed to Eastlands in the early hours of 2nd September for a British record fee of £32.5million.
Few, if any, predicted such a move and even Robinho himself seemed a little flustered by the surprise goings-on when in a press conference he mentioned that he had moved to Chelsea instead of City.
