Agent says striker could head to Newcastle

Jermaine Beckford's agent Nick Rubery says Leeds United's transfer-listed striker could move to Newcastle. The Magpies were linked with a move for the talented forward earlier in the summer having been impressed by his goalscoring record last term. However, a deal is yet to materialise with the newly-relegated side still concentrating on their ongoing takeover saga. Beckford's agent, though, has refused to rule out a summer move to St James' Park, admitting that he expects positive news on the Leeds striker's future soon.

Interest

"It wouldn't be true to say Newcastle have missed out on Jermaine because of what is going on there," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post. "There has been interest from other clubs and I would anticipate something happening soon - maybe in the next couple of weeks when the transfer market begins to start hotting up. "But it is certainly true Newcastle is still a seriously attractive option for Jermaine. They are a big club, with a fantastic tradition and history and any player would love to play at St James' Park. "I'm sure he would talk to whoever takes over at Newcastle when it is sorted out."
Club statement
Meanwhile, Leeds have confirmed that they have rejected approaches for both Beckford and talented youngster Fabian Delph. A statement on the club's official website read: "Leeds United can confirm that we have received offers direct from two Premier League clubs for Fabian Delph. "The offers have been rejected. "It is not the club's usual policy to comment on speculation. However, in these circumstances we felt it appropriate to clarify the situation. "Approaches have also been made in respect of Jermaine Beckford which have also been rejected."
