French midfielder hopes for Plymouth move

Plymouth have invited French midfielder Anthony Robic for a trial at Home Park. Robic is available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at Ligue 2 side Tours FC. Pilgrms boss Paul Sturrock will cast an eye over Robic in training next week and the 23-year-old is expected to feature in a practice match. Robic admits he is keen to impress during his trial as he looks to secure a move to England. "The game has always been interesting in England," Robic told France Football. "The contacts I have in France have been slow to materialise and I have an opportunity in England so I want to seize it "I will give everything during this test and we'll see what happens."

Funds

Meanwhile, Sturrock hopes the club's new owners will back him in the transfer market after he ruled out a £1million move for Ipswich's Danny Haynes. Haynes had been linked with a move to Home Park, but Sturrock insists he is not on his wanted list although he would love to bring in some big-money signings this summer. "I'd love to think there will come a day when I can spend that kind of money," Sturrock said of the £1million link with Haynes. "But the only way that could happen is if we put a team on the football pitch that has attracted more fans; if the commercial side has taken off; and if we have a new stand, and really good training facilities. "And that we've managed to put our house in order as far as the budget is concerned. "How long that takes is like asking: 'How long is a piece of string?' "But I'd be delighted to be the first manager of this football club to buy a £1million player. "It'd be nice as it means we'd have done something right." Sturrock held talks with new chairman Sir Roy Gardner and director Keith Todd earlier this week and the Scot hopes they will make funds available so that he can make signings soon. "I think they are appreciative that we cannot wait this time (to bring in new signings)," added Sturrock. "If we do wait, then we just get gazumped again and I don't want to go down the road of what happened last year. "I'm hopeful they're appreciative that we can pick up maybe two or three players which would put us over budget - but, at the same time, allow us to move on."
