Espanyol's prize recruit Shunsuke Nakamura believes his status at the club will be no different from his new team-mates.
The 31-year-old, who snubbed a return to Japan to sign a two-year deal with the La Liga side last month, arrived in Spain amid much fanfare.
Hundreds of adoring fans and reporters greeted the midfielder as he swept into Barcelona for a medical.
"I'm not a star," Nakamura told
The Standard.
"I will have to work twice as hard as everyone else at the club and be prepared to put in a defensive shift.
"It's not easy to make an impact in Spanish football. I'll be trying hard to establish myself step by step."
Espanyol manager Mauricio Pochettino is backing the Japanese international to be a success and lauded the player's attitude.
"He is a dream signing and we are confident he will live up to expectations," he said.
"We don't think he will just be a media figure. He will be an important player for the team.
"His work ethic is amazing and I can see that he desperately wants to succeed in this league."
