Hamburg have met with Groningen as they attempt to conclude their long-running bid to sign striker Marcus Berg.
Groningen director Hans Nijland recently claimed that he expected the Sweden Under-21 starlet to stay in Holland after Hamburg failed to make a suitable bid.
However, officials from the two clubs met again on Wednesday night in an attempt to reach an agreement and the player's agent, Soren Lerby, revealed he was awaiting news.
"I will stay up until late in the night to find out if anything has been settled," he told
Aftonbladet.
Reports suggest Groningen want 11 million euros (£9.4m) for the 22-year-old and Hamburg's Holland international Romeo Castellen believes it would be a good investment.
"Marcus scored 17 goals last season and then hit seven in the European Under-21 Championships," he said in
Hamburger Abendblatt.
"The numbers speak for themselves.
"However, the switch from the Eredivisie to the Bundesliga is huge.
"We would have to give him time to find his way in Germany."
Van der Vaart
Meanwhile, Hamburg have refused to comment on reports they are hoping to bring Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart back to the club.
Van der Vaart is believed to be surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu after their summer overhaul and the German press have suggested that Hamburg are lining up a loan move for the Holland international.
However, HSV chairman Bernd Hoffmann has refused to be drawn on the speculation.
He told the
Hamburger Morgenpost: "I have nothing to say about that."
