Chesterfield have taken midfielder Neale McDermott on trial with a view to offering him a permanent deal.
The 24-year-old, who is the son of Liverpool legend Terry, has just been released by Belgian third division side Royale Association Athlitique Louviiroise and is searching for a new club.
The former Newcastle trainee has had spells with Swindon, Darlington and Carlisle in the lower leagues and Spireites manager John Sheridan is keen to cast his eye over the player.
McDermott came off the bench for the final 20 minutes of the 2-1 over Derby in the Derbyshire FA Centenary Cup on Saturday and is set to play his part in the friendly against Sheffield Wednesday at Saltergate on Wednesday.
"Neale came in and trained very hard and he did well when he came on," Sheridan said.
"We will have another look at him on Wednesday night because I have made no secret of the fact I want to strengthen the squad with three more players, one of which is a midfielder."
