Skysports.com has a look at Sven-Goran Eriksson's career to date following his Notts County switch. 1948: Born Torsby, Sweden, February 5. 1975: Finishes playing career in Sweden with his only club, Degerfors. 1976: Takes over as coach at Degerfors. 1979: Takes over as coach of IFK Gothenburg, winning two cups and a league title. 1982: Joins Benfica where he wins Portuguese championship twice and domestic cup, but loses in final of the UEFA Cup to Anderlecht. 1984: Takes over at Roma. 1986: Wins Coppa Italia in his second season in charge at Roma. 1987: Leaves Roma to join Italian rivals Fiorentina. 1989: Rejoins Benfica. 1990: Takes Benfica to European Cup final, losing 1-0 to AC Milan. 1991: Wins Portuguese championship for the third time. 1992: Leaves Benfica to join Sampdoria. 1994: Wins Coppa Italia.

1996: Named as new Blackburn manager but is unable to join until the summer of 1997 due to contractual obligations with Sampdoria and later changes his mind. 1997: Joins Lazio. 1998: Wins Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup. 1999: Wins European Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Super Cup. 2000: Wins Italian Serie A title and Coppa Italia. October - Agrees five-year contract to become first foreign manager of the England national team from summer of 2001. 2001: January 9 - Resigns as Lazio manager, leaving him free to take up England post immediately. September 1 - Perhaps the Swede's finest hour as England boss. After falling behind in Munich, England storm back to beat Germany 5-1 and move into pole position in their qualifying group. 2002: April - Eriksson's World Cup preparations are disrupted by revelations of his affair with TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson. June 21 - Despite taking the lead through Michael Owen, England slip out of the World Cup as they go down 2-1 to Brazil in Shizuoka in the quarter-finals. 2003: July - Eriksson admits meeting new Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich but claims the occasion was purely a social one. October 11 - England draw 0-0 in Turkey to reach Euro 2004 finals. 2004: March 27 - Pictured in a national newspaper attending a meeting with Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon, fuelling speculation he is next in line for the manager's job at Stamford Bridge.

March 28 - Agrees two-year extension with Football Association taking him up until 2008. June 24 - After progressing from their qualifying group, England lose a penalty shoot-out to Euro 2004 hosts Portugal in the quarter-finals. July 18 - The News of the World reports that Eriksson had a relationship with Faria Alam, a secretary at the FA. 2005: September 7 - Fans chant for his sacking as England lose to Northern Ireland 1-0 in Belfast. October - Wins over Austria and Poland see England qualify for the World Cup finals as group winners. 2006: January 15 - The News of the World publishes an article in which Eriksson reportedly tells an undercover reporter - posing as a rich Arab - he would quit as England coach if they win the World Cup, and suggests he would be prepared to become manager of Aston Villa as part of a takeover bid. January 22 - Announces he is to sue the News of the World for "breach of confidentiality". January 23 - Appears before the FA Compliance Unit. FA announce Eriksson will leave his post after the 2006 World Cup. July: England are knocked out of the World Cup by Portugal in the quarter-finals via another penalty shoot-out, after some unconvincing displays in the tournament.

February 10 - A 2-1 victory at Old Trafford completes a Premier League double over derby rivals Manchester United. May 4 - Fans protest during an away match at Liverpool against owner Thaksin Shinawatra's alleged plans to oust Eriksson. May 14 - Benfica admit defeat in their attempt to lure Eriksson back for a third spell in charge. May 16 - City are awarded a place in the 2008-09 UEFA Cup due to their ranking in the Premier League's Fair Play League. May 27 - Mexican Football Federation president Justino Compean claims Eriksson will be named Mexico manager on June 2. June 2 - Eriksson leaves City by "mutual consent". June 3 - Announced as the new head coach of Mexico. 2009: April 2 - After an unsuccessful spell in Mexico, during which he is also linked with the manager's position at Portsmouth, Eriksson is sacked. July 22 - The Swede is appointed director of football at Coca-Cola League Two outfit Notts County following their takeover by a Middle Eastern consortium.
