Lions defender waiting for firm contract offer

Peterborough United are in talks to sign Zak Whitbread after having an offer for the defender accepted by Millwall. Whitbread was placed on the transfer list by the Lions earlier this month after rejecting an extension to his contract which expires in 12 months' time. The former Liverpool youngster is now in discussions over a move to Peterborough after a fee, reportedly in the region of £700,000, was agreed between the two clubs. The American's agent Kevin Moran has confirmed that he is now waiting for Posh manager Darren Ferguson to respond with a contract offer for Whitbread. Moran told South London Press: "We have talked figures, but we are waiting to hear back from Darren at the moment." However, Peterborough could yet face competition for the centre-half amid reports that Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion are also showing an interest.
