Gignac nets only goal as France beat minnows

Andre-Pierre Gignac scored his first international goal as France struggled to a 1-0 win over the Faroe Islands to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for next summer's World Cup. Gignac netted three minutes before half-time after he collected a pass from Florent Malouda just inside the penalty area, span quickly and placed a low shot into the bottom left corner. The result means second-placed France now have 13 points from six matches in Group 7, moving to within five points of leaders Serbia with a game in hand. But it was a far from convincing performance from Raymond Domenech's team, who have to play Romania and Serbia next month.
