Lady Luck deserts Brentford
FanZone correspondent William Boye rues the appearance of an unwelcome ex-girlfriend at Griffin Park, but believes The Bees' relationship with the fans is stronger than ever...
After such a confident performance and entertaining display against Carlisle on the opening weekend, so much hope surrounded our Carling Cup tie. The Brentford dressing room was bouncing with confidence and due to this the people fancied The Bees to steal it. They had everyone unusually fit, they had home advantage but even more importantly they had a full house.
However, sometimes in life things just don't turn out the way they are supposed to and this was just one of those days. It was just one of those games where lady lucky was simply not on our side - she sat and watched us hit the post, rattle the top of the crossbar, and she even gave a helping hand to the Bristol City goalkeeper whenever in need.
It is fair to say she turned up to Griffin Park wearing the wrong colours.
There were more head-in-hand moments with every opportunity that went astray and, as if things couldn't get any worse, she topped it off by kissing the Bristol City badge in the second half as they took the lead after half time.
Positives
There are positives which all the Brentford devotees can take back with them and they range from creating chances in Myles Weston and Steven Kabba to minimizing the amount of chances the opposition take with the experienced Nikki Bull in-between the white sticks.
There seems to be flair in this Brentford team, they seem to be taking with them that aura that led to us being crowned champions last season.
On top of that the new signings seem to be settling in well, Weston showed exactly what he is capable of against Carlisle on the weekend and Sam Saunders has also shown signs of brilliance.
So we will just pass this game as simply an off day, and tell lady lucky that if she even thinks of showing her face at Griffin Park again, then she better be wearing the mighty red and white stripes. If she doesn't, believe it or not Mrs......it's over!
